Hi, I’m Kanika Kamalkant.
What started as a journey into Ayurveda and meditation gradually evolved into a much deeper exploration of human nature—one that eventually led to the creation of the Varna Career Alignment Framework.

My journey actually began somewhere very different.
I started my career as an Ayurveda physician in 2009. While studying the Charaka Samhita, I came across its fascinating understanding of human nature, including sixteen personality types. It opened my eyes to the idea that people are fundamentally different—not just in their bodies, but in the way they think, learn, and live.
That question stayed with me.
At the same time, I had been deeply studying the Bhagavad Gita. As I explored its teachings on Guna, Karma, and Svabhava, I discovered a remarkably sophisticated understanding of human nature through the concept of Varna vyavastha.
What intrigued me most wasn’t the philosophy itself, but how practical it was.
The more I studied, the more I wondered:
If these principles are so practical, why aren’t we using them to help people make better career and life decisions today?
For a while, I focused on correcting misconceptions surrounding Varna (the great Indian caste system). I spent a great deal of time explaining what it is—and what it isn’t.
Eventually, I realised something important.
Simply arguing against misconceptions wasn’t creating anything new.
Instead of spending my energy explaining what people had misunderstood, I wanted to build something people could actually use.
That shift changed everything.
Rather than looking backwards, I began asking:
How can these timeless principles help someone choose a career today?
That question became the seed of the Varna Career Alignment Framework.
Along the way, I also came to appreciate another truth: the mind plays a central role in shaping every aspect of our lives, even our diseases. Wanting to understand it more deeply for my Ayurvda practice, I completed postgraduate training in psychotherapy and counselling.
For the past seven years, I’ve worked as a practising psychotherapist and counsellor, giving me the opportunity to observe how people think, struggle, grow, and make decisions. My thesis on Mindfulness also opened doors to better clarity on the ancient varna system.
This experience allowed me to compare modern psychological models with the ancient understanding of human nature found in the Vedic tradition.
However, the greatest influence on my work has been my 20-year practice of Heartfulness Meditation. It has taught me to look beyond the mind, and observe the human spirit more deeply. It helped to approach life with greater clarity and balance. Many of the insights that shaped this framework emerged through that journey.
The Varna Career Alignment Framework is an independent framework rooted in the Bhagavad Gita’s understanding of Guna, Karma, and Svabhava, while existing alongside modern psychological approaches rather than replacing or borrowing from them.
Today, the Varna Career Alignment Framework is the first practical application I’ve developed from this broader vision.
My hope is that it will be the first of many.
I believe the principles of Varna have the potential to help us far beyond career choices. They offer a way to better understand ourselves, create spiritually satisfying careers, find spiritual life-partners, and create communities where people contribute according to their natural strengths.
This framework is my first step towards making that vision practical, accessible, and relevant for the modern world.
सर्वे भवन्तु सुखिनः।
सर्वे सन्तु निरामयाः।
सर्वे भद्राणि पश्यन्तु।
मा कश्चिद् दुःखभाग्भवेत्॥
May all be happy.
May all be free from illness.
May all see what is auspicious and good.
May no one suffer or experience misery.
